This course is intended for young children who have hearing loss. A youngster gains language competency and improves communication skills. This training is crucial for setting the foundation helping a deaf or hard of hearing child be school ready.
Through this course, children receive counseling, speech, sign, educational and language remediation support to help them cope in mainstream education. Another crucial component of this programme is regular grooming and life skills training and workshops.
The training's three main goals are the parents' well-being, knowledge, and empowerment. This training assists parents in understanding their position as parents, accepting their child, meeting their emotional needs, and learning about their child's potential as well as their rights and entitlements.
Anwesha Kolkata has started organizing hearing screening of young babies, with the help of professionals. Identified children receive referral support for diagnostic and assistive devices and intervention support from Anwesha.
Anwesha Kolkata has started its community outreach programme in 24 Pgs (S). This programme offers community-based interventions and training specifically designed for deaf and hard of hearing children and their parents.
Anwesha Kolkata organizes community awareness programs, including World Hearing Day on March 3 and International Week of the Deaf People (IWDP) in the last week of September, to promote societal acceptance and inclusion for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) individuals, aiming to bring about meaningful change and integration.
BONDHU is a self advocacy group of vibrant youths who believe that they have the right to enjoy a barrier-free life and should be able to enjoy human rights on an equal basis with others. They envision a future in which everyone is treated equally and without distinction due to deafness.
Anwesha is working to expand parent groups into a state-level federation called ‘Pratidhwani WB,’ aiming to influence policies for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. The goal is for this movement to grow beyond West Bengal and create positive national change for these communities.
Anwesha Kolkata collaborates with various institutes, organizations, and government departments on multiple issues. The organization is a member of Disability Activists Forum, West Bengal. It is also a member of the Global Coalition of Parents of Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (GPODHH), and the World Hearing Forum, WHO.
